Sustainability is IN FOCUS for this upcoming webinar, as we zoom in on regional air travel and the transition to electric powered aircraft! Electrification is taking off, and during the upcoming years, electric powered aircraft are expected to replace regular aircraft on regional flight paths to an increasing extent. This is a process that is currently ongoing in northern Europe.
Electric powered aircraft brings expectations of reduced emissions and lowered operative costs. To live up to these expectations, the general supply and the source of electricity will come to play an increasingly important role.
A recent report by our guest presenter Annie Olofsson, Energy Market Analyst at Sweco, maps out advantages and challenges with solar panels and battery warehouses connected to regional airports. It presents an opportunity for airports to be a contributing factor to a successful transition to sustainable energy, while simultaneously preparing for climate neutral air travel.
At the end of the webinar you will get a chance to ask any questions you might have on the subject in a dedicated Q&A session.

Presenter: Annie Olofsson, Energy Market Analyst, Sweco
Annie is working within the energy markets as an analyst of both technical and strategic matters with a main interest in the transportation sector and local energy production. She has been working with the electrification of transportation on the road, the maritime market and in the air. She just finished a study on how regional airports already has the to ability be a part of the energy transition by being suppliers of solar power and at the same time reassure the fuel demand when the commercialization of electric aviation hits the market. Annie is an engineer with a master’s degree within sustainable energy systems from Lund’s University and the University of Lisbon. |
Presenter: Fadi Antoon, Technical Manager, Sweco
Fadi has worked on multiple airport projects as the Technical Manager for the airport planning team. The latest airport project, Pier G, involved the design of a pier building with a total of 400,000 sqm of new manoeuvring areas that include taxiways, aprons with MARS stands, aeronautical ground lights (AGL), technical systems, vehicle roads for logistics for efficient handling of aircraft during a turnaround. |
Sweco plans and designs the sustainable communities and cities of the future. Together with their clients and the collective knowledge of their architects, engineers and other specialists, Sweco co-create solutions to address urbanisation, capture the power of digitalisation, and make our societies more sustainable.
