The spread of the COVID-19 virus and the restrictive measures implemented by governments around the world has brought air travel to a near complete halt. The current downturn is the biggest the industry has experienced since the Second World War, with most aircraft grounded and airlines losing vast sums of money every day. IATA, the International Air Transport Association, expects that passenger traffic for the 2020 calendar year will be less than half of the volume seen in 2019.
